Strengthen language support and heritage languages
The SPD wants to expand German-language support while also extending heritage-language teaching under the state's responsibility. Greek and Turkish are to count at secondary schools as foreign languages relevant for moving up a grade. Intensive classes are again to have no more than twelve children.
The SPD wants more help with learning German. More teachers should be able to teach German as a second language. Children should also be able to learn their family's language at school. Greek and Turkish should count as foreign languages. Classes for newly arrived children should get smaller.
The program names good German skills as the basis for integration, educational success and participation. Additional teachers are to be trained in German as a second and foreign language. The smaller size of intensive classes is meant to enable fast learning and give teachers more room for individual support.
