Keep the combustion engine, prevent bans
The AfD wants to keep using and developing the combustion engine until a competitive technology is available. It opposes bans on combustion vehicles, driving bans, subsidies and current emission limits. It does not consider electric mobility a suitable replacement for the foreseeable future.
The AfD wants to keep cars with gasoline and diesel engines. It is against banning these cars. It is also against driving bans and strict exhaust rules. The AfD does not think electric cars can replace these cars soon.
The party bases its position on the car industry's importance for jobs and prosperity in Germany and Saxony. Against electric cars it cites the lower energy density of batteries, long charging times, a feared overload of power grids and fire risks; it says hydrogen fuel cells are too inefficient. Small and medium-sized businesses should not be harmed by driving bans on approved vehicles. The demands are addressed to the federal government and the EU.
