Expand public transit with trams, subway and frequent service
The SPD wants public transit to run at least every ten minutes everywhere in Berlin and to extend the tram and subway networks. Halted tram projects are to be resumed. The aim is to let more people switch from cars.
The SPD wants more buses and trains. Everywhere in Berlin, something should run at least every 10 minutes. There should be new tram and subway lines. Buses should get their own lanes and green lights. Small driverless buses should run on the edge of the city.
Stops are to be no more than 300 to 400 meters from residential areas and schools. Priority goes to the tram lines from Turmstraße via the Urban Tech Republic to the Schumacherquartier with an extension to Spandau, plus Warschauer Straße–Hermannplatz and Alexanderplatz–Kulturforum. For the subway, the U3, U7 and U8 are to be extended and a line from Alexanderplatz to Hohenschönhausen planned. The i2030 rail project with Brandenburg is to be fully funded and the airport express extended to Gesundbrunnen. Added to this are renovation, accessible stations, more electric buses and autonomous minibuses in outlying areas.
