Overhaul public broadcasting, end the mandatory fee
The AfD rejects the mandatory broadcasting fee and wants to amend the interstate broadcasting treaty so that only users pay. Public broadcasting would shrink and be limited to information and regional coverage, as the AfD accuses it of bias, waste and breaches of the law.
Today every household pays the broadcasting fee. The AfD wants only viewers to pay. Public broadcasting should become smaller. It should mainly inform and report on the region.
Salaries would follow public-sector pay scales, and three director posts would be cut. Party members would no longer be allowed to sit on the broadcasting council or administrative board of rbb, the regional public broadcaster. The broadcasting council would be halved and elected directly by the people. Meetings of supervisory bodies would generally be public, and program complaints would be handled in public. The AfD also wants a review of the scandals at rbb; the preface speaks of terminating the interstate broadcasting treaties.
