Strengthen consumer protection, decriminalize dumpster diving
The Greens want to give the Hesse consumer advice center more funding and continue the state's nutrition strategy. Taking discarded food from bins, known as dumpster diving, should no longer be a crime.
The consumer advice center in Hesse should get more money. People in rural areas should get advice too. Some people take thrown-away food from store bins. The Greens want this to no longer be punished.
A statewide plan for outreach consumer advice is to be developed for rural areas. Under the nutrition strategy, food education in daycare centers and with childminders, marketing of regional and organic food, and healthy meals in large kitchens are to be expanded. Food policy councils are to receive funding. Municipalities would get more staff for food safety inspections.
